On the Avenue

It's Labor Day weekend and I'm stuck in New York. Don't get me wrong--I love New York. But the sun is warm and there's a gentle breeze wafting and being stuck in this concrete jungle is the last place I want to be on the last weekend of Summer.

I had appointments on the Upper West Side but I couldn't face the subway. So I started walking. I live on Riverside Drive and I am rather partial to this stretch of road. Paralleling the Hudson River and Riverside Park, this thruway is home to some glorious grand dames of the Belle Age. Embellished with intricate marble and wrought iron, these edifices are delicious to a girl who grew up in California and was accustomed to single level ranch houses and spanish style haciendas. These imposing structures are rich with history and elaborate with wedding cake detail. I can never get enough of their beauty.

So I documented it as I wandered downtown.
