The Land of Largesse

I just got home from 24 hours in Houston. I was working most of the time but I did have enough time to step outside and breath in fresh air while taking in vast blue skies and nearly 80 degree weather. It was heavenly to experience the sun on my face. It felt like rebirth. Seriously.

I'll be honest. I don't think I could ever live in Houston. I like the stupid-crazy pace of New York. I like the noise and kvetching and restaurants open all night and its general buzz. I'm an admitted glutton for punishment.

It was strange once I arrived in Texas--it was calm and peaceful. The people were naturally charming and friendly, the pace on the street was practically lollygagging worthy. It seemed incredibly laid back. I felt like I was on Valium.

When evening came, I gathered my colleagues and we went to a desolate area on the outskirts of Houston for Mexican food. A Bronx born colleague of mine who had logged several years in Houston as a pharmaceutical rep recommended a place called Ninfa's. It was worthy of the recommendation. From the cilantro laced salsa to the tender carne asada, I was in heaven. And the margaritas? Please, bitch! Texas is a rather interesting place. It was its own country years ago, you know. And they do have rather fierce lawn ornaments.

My husband's family is Texas and they are definately in their own world out there.

We are going to Houston in June to visit his family....I'm kind of dreading it....but I get to see my friend Missie for 1/2 of the trip, so that'll be nice!!

Was it warm in Houston?

Girl, the weather was glorious. Dry heat, 70 degrees, pure bliss after a long, cold winter. It was subliminal. You'll enjoy the visit.
