Food a Go-Go

I am a huge fan of retro food recipes. The kitschy recipe books from the 1950s are pure crack for me. Some of the concoctions, while super sophisticated for their time, are the stuff of high camp now. And thank God--I adore them. While I can hobble a few funny pictures together for your amusement here, please visit the following links for the true masters. They have the dissertation of the retro cook book down utterly. Enjoy!

The flaming cabbage might be the most exciting party idea I've ever seen. Seriously.

I need to contribute one of the funniest contributions to demented food of the past:

Circa 1974 Weight Watchers recipe cards" on Candyboots.com. If you've never seen this before, go! Read them now! If you have seen them before, go read them again. They will still make you laugh your morning coffee up your nose.

That spam 'n' limas is making me throw up a little in my mouth.

Jen: Hollaback and I were laughing so freaking hard at your 1970s Weight Watchers cards that we had tears streaming down our cheeks. And the funniest thing of all? The Bad Marcy of the Mexican Foods? My real name...here it comes..is Marcy. Yes, and spelt the same way. So I am the Evil Queen of Bad Mexican Foods!!!! Who KNEW?!?!

Honey, you MADE my night!

Marcy's "Chicken" and "Waffles"!!!

Heeeeeee! Didn't think of that before.

Just to be clear, that site is not my own evil genius. It belongs to Wendy McClure of poundy.com - a true blogging pioneer who even got a book deal out of this silly hobby of ours.

Seriously, I just got to the last card and I cried a little. I don't want it to ever be over.
