Some random thoughts for a lazy Sunday in Autumn.
-I went to go see Christopher Guest's "For Your Consideration" down at Lincoln Center. I usually love his films with its wry satire and stock cast of outrageous characters. I was hoping for another "Best in Show" or "Waiting for Guffman" but this was lacking. It was a bit too obvious and dare I say, forced. Only Catherine O'Hara's sweet turn as an aging actress was the saving grace.
-On the subway, on the very same car that I was riding in, there were three women all wearing short skirts, tights and leg warmers hugging their calves. Has the world simply gone mad? This trend must cease now or I'll have to start getting Shetangy on someone's ass.
-Got that classic old Robert Frost poem in my head--you know the one that often gets quoted on days like today, when the air has a piquant bite and the sun is pure and bright. Since you asked, here's the classic stanza, which I know you all remember from your school days:
Nature's first green is gold, Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leafs a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf. So Eden sank to grief, So dawn goes down to day. Nothing gold can stay.
-I'm in the process of making a chicken and andouille sausage gumbo for dinner. I've chopped and sauteed the holy trinity and have minced a hell of a lot of garlic (which we will call The Pope). The roux was as brown as I've ever dared so here's hoping it comes together cleanly. The biggest challenge was finding lard at the cushy little boutique grocery store on the West Side. When I asked one of the employees if he could help me, he retrieved a can of Crisco. Fortunately, I always save a reserve of bacon grease for occasions like this, so I just melted it down and strained it finely. After all, a little pork flavor in the mix can only help, no?
-The latest song stuck in my head was one I heard a few nights ago on a website. It hasn't been released yet, but because I listened to it multiple times online, I simply can not exorcise it from my brain. It's very bluesy, in the tradition of Van Morrison, and called "The Right Place." Songs like this make me think of home, comfort, kicking off your shoes, feeling good. I dig this song.
-Is it just me or are there no compelling television shows on this season? I usually make an attempt to watch a few new shows each season (at least those with a promising premise), but most are lacking. I am a bit of a freak, I admit, because I do not watch "Desperate Housewives" or "Grey's Anatomy" or "CSI" or "Survivor." I've never watched any of these shows. I'm still watching a second tepid season of "Top Chef" and I'm trying to keep up with "Heroes" every week, because I am rather intrigued by the premise and well, I like the Japanese character who can suspend time. Tell me, are there any shows that I should be watching?
-Question that struck me when I woke up today...is it appropriate for women to continue to wax their nether regions in the winter? I mean, if you're not routinely wearing a swim suit and no one is venturing down there, does it matter? Double D, if you're reading this, please advise me on the hard and fast seasonal waxing rule. I mean, it hurts like a mother, so if I can put it off till March, I might just do so.
Enjoy your Sunday.

The only shows I am regularly watching are Friday Night Lights (the coach is too cute), House (I suggest you rent first season DVD), Studio 60... (not sure how long Sorkin can keep backstory of SNL-type show interesting), 30 Rock (Tina Fey & Alec Baldwin!) If you get Showtime Dexter is supposed to be the new hot thing.
I think you should sign up for Netflix and rent great TV shows and watch at your leisure.
You should ask Fang if he appreciates a well groomed nether region. That's the only opinion that counts in the off season.
That was a classic overshare--even from me. Sorry.
