Summertime

In my hood, when the mercury soars, the only real relief comes from the vigilante action of opening a fire hydrant. Today the temperatures rose to nearly 100 degrees and my neighbors did what came naturally. The water flowed down Riverside Drive like the Colorado rapids. People cavorted in the cold flow of rushing water. I even dangled my feet for a moment and it felt glorious. So here it is--summertime.
