Street Food

I grew up as squarely middle class so street food was a normal experience for me. Food cooked on the street on a mobile flat top grill tastes good. I haven't had a sausage, a gyro, a falafel, shish kabob or a fish and rice combo plate that I haven't enjoyed. I am a fan of the NYC Halal food wagon experience.

I discussed this with a few of my Connecticut based colleagues recently. They opined that the idea of eating from a street wagon was repulsive. They felt it was a recipe for salmonella. I found this exasperating--I am living proof that street food won't kill you. This is tasty, soulful, delicious food. It just happens that it is cooked in a venue that is visible to the consumer.

You people don't know what you're missing. I am enjoying grilled chicken and peppers from a street wagon tonight for dinner and it is absolutely delicious.

Jealous! I don't remember the last food I've gotten off a street cart. :(

as my dearly departed father used to say "food from the side of the road is the best food"

Eat on, my friend!

OMG, both times I have been to NYC I drool the entire time at those wagons and their grilled delights!

I love street meat, although it rarely tastes as good as it smells in NYC. However I have eaten it daily in Mexico and it has been uniformly awesome.
