Fang and I embarked on a diet a month ago. We found ourselves working long days which resulted in take out food at 10 pm at night, a growing lack of exercise and an obvious acquisition of the fabled middle aged spread. 30 days ago, I put my foot down and started a diet.
Weeks prior to this, I did a fair amount of research. I really enjoy food and vibrant flavors and admittedly fat, so I wanted to chose something that would encourage me to adopt good eating habits that would last long term. I haven't dieted a whole lot of my life, although ten years ago I went on Atkins and I lost a good amount of weight. Atkins is notorious for allowing one to consume copious amounts of bacon, butter and cheese, however it's not a sustainable diet (to say nothing of the damage it must reek on one's internal organs). It took six years, but I put the weight back on.
It was time to start this work in earnest.
Despite the fact that Valerie Bertinelli looks gorgeous, Jenny Craig had very poor ratings. Weight Watchers, equally so. Various blogs rated many of the plans and the top two plans that prevailed were Nutrisystem and Bistro MD.
I have a friend who was on Nutrisystem so I prevailed on her experience. All the food was rehydrated and a little monotonous, in her view. I checked out the site and realized that a majority of the food was carbohydrate heavy (55%). The user was also asked to supplement a lot of the food. I wanted ease so I began to explore Bistro MD.
This program offered tasty food: proteins, vegetables, fruit, complex carbs and soy. It ensures that you don't have to supplement your food and makes the work easy for you. I was sold.
After 30 days of this diet, I'm enjoying delicious meals that take minutes to cook. I don't buy groceries so the expense of the program is a wash. And the best outcome of all? Fang is down 18 pounds and I'm down 13. My clothes fit better and I'm feeling better.
We have a long way to go, but I'm eyeing that Calvin Klein bikini I last wore in 2003 which might be ready to make an appearance in 2010.

I may have to call you for guidance. I am officially fat. After a weekend of fried chicken salad at Cafeteria, a Turkey Burger and fries from the West Side Diner, an almond-nut ice cream bar in Central Park, sesame chicken and cheese cake at Vinyl, my waistband is punishing me today. I deserve it, I guess.
What are you talking about? You are a slim little thing--hardly nearing the precipice of overweight, no where near the region of fat. You're a role model, child!
Congratulations on your weighloss, Marcy! That is awesome news!!!! I'm so proud of you!!!!!!!!!!
