I find I have fallen into an evening pattern that involves an intimate relationship between me and my computer. When I settle in for the evening (cat fed, chores done, daily briefing with Fang, maybe a bite to eat) I sit down before a well worn keyboard and start the routine.
Here's the rundown:
-I log into my work e-mail and catch up with any new or pending messages.
-Onto Facebook to update status and to see what my friends are posting. I post a few smart ass comments, "like" a few comments and perhaps fling an errant poke or two. I just realized tonight that I have a separate inbox on my account and there are *gulp* 27 messages waiting for me. I better get to that.
-I move onto Twitter to read all my favorites' updates. I made the mistake of favoriting Barak Obama and damn, his staff posts alot of shit. This is compensated by pithy tweets (twits?) by The Onion. Tonight Fang said, "If you've already posted something, does that mean it is a twat?" Tweet? Twittered? Twat? You got me.
-It's intermission so I do a brief scan of Gawker.com, CNN.com, EOnline.com and IDon'tLikeYouThatWay.com. Culturally refreshed, back to work.
-I do a quick check in on work e-mails.
-I upload the latest wacky videos my brother sent me from YouTube. He seems to favor bizarre clown videos (he knows I hate clowns), "Jackass" skits, anything with William Shatner, farting videos, "When Animals Attack," foreign language commercials and ghosts (he knows I unreasonably but secretly fear ghosts).
-It's chicken and waffles time. The evening blog post. That is, if I have anything worthwhile to blog about. Or not.
-I check work e-mail one last time and call it a night.
It's rather amazing how much time this can absorb yet it's more engaging these days than television. I'm sure someone older than me would opine that this too will rot my brain.
Do you have a daily online pattern?
