Bloody actors. They have to film their artistic mediums here in the neighborhood, thereby inconveniencing the locals. It's a damned nerve. The weather has proven complacent with that traditional Fall nip so I flung the windows open to air the rooms out. At 3:52 am this morning I awoke to the sound of a slowly retreating trailer situating its generous backside along a curb on Riverside Drive. WTF? It's the middle of the night, I thought. I got up and peered out of the window onto the street. I saw a convoy of dressing room trailers backing out onto the curbs. Florescent orange cones were stationed all along the street. Florescent lighting was stationed and brightly illuminated. Good Lord--it's those television types again.
I had to reroute my walk this morning and my walk home at night. I asked Eddie the Moravian doorman what was happening (don't you know, doorman always know what the score is). "Oh, they're filming another episode of 'Law & Order' here, " he responded breezily. It's damned inconvenient, I thought as I gathered up my mail and collected my delivered dry cleaning. I mean, we locals have standards.
And as I prepared to retire tonight, I still have to listen to the sound of trailers humming below my bedroom window.
It's damned inconvenient.

Johnny Depp filmed in the town I live in and the whole town turned out plus people from neighboring towns. They stayed out there the entire day of filming. The local Dairy Queen sign proclaimed: Johnny Depp eats free. Traffic was a mess, just going to get gas was an ordeal. And you New Yorkers get annoyed. I am laughing my ass off.
It was a similar set up when I lived in LA. It seemed as if they were everywhere at once..Griffith Park, Ralph's, Chandler Avenue, the mall. At first it was interesting, but when they act like you should be awe stricken, it is annoying. The one and only moving violation I have ever received was because I made an illegal left turn on Mulholland Drive. They were setting up a construction site for a movie scene and I followed the directions on a "prop" traffic sign. When I complained to the officer he apologized nicely (all while he was writing the ticket) and said he would back me up if I decided to fight it in court. I asked him how I could be sure he was a real officer and this wasn't a prop ticket. He patted his gun and smiled and told me to have a nice day.
Law & Order: Criminal Intent filmed several days last week on my street. When your filming becomes a public nuisance, it's a signal that you've extended your franchise too far!
You guys are hilarious--thanks for putting it into perspective. The "Johnny Depp Eats Free" was especially brilliant! And to think, I was complaining about the low rumble all last night of the humming generators of the dressing trailers! I am humbled.
I love Law and Order. The only thing outside my window last night was the dog trying to eat a possum she had somehow trapped, then killed. Give me your view/sounds/smells any day!
;-)
Possum meat? That's good eatin'! :)
