The finale of Season 10 of "America's Next Top Model" was on tonight. If you visit this site with any frequency, you'll know that I am a curiously devoted fan of this show. Every year a plus size model is in the top 13 yet not one of this minority has ever won. Well what do you know, people? Tonight, the plus size girl won.Hallelujah! This gorgeous bit of womanhood beat out two traditionally modelesque types by sashaying down a catwalk in Rome swathed in some freaking gorgeous Versace fashions. Not only did she look confident and gorgeous, but HELLO--I wanted those dresses. I still want the hot pink baby doll. Donatella, call me!!
It's a unique acknowledgement that women with curves can be considered chic. Tonight the Oracle of Tyra (Miss Banks, if you please) stated, "This is the kind of woman who can present fashion and also the kind of woman men want to take to bed." That has winner written all over it for me. The notion that plus sized women can be considered an acceptable purveyor of fashion presentation is sweet.
So for all of us with voluptuous hips, large breasts and an uncontrollable undulating walk, I say let's work it, girls. For this brief shining moment, we're on top.

I watched it, and was SO happy Courtney won! I just think she has loads of personality, and I love her face. That black and white photo she took tonight was stunning.
YAY!
She's plus size? She doesn't look that big to me. Well, hallelujah! She's gorgeous.
What is considered plus size? She doesn't look plus size to me. I didn't watch the show, but I did see clips today, she is really attractive. By these standards, all of the actresses of the 50's & early 60's would have been considered plus size, with the exception of perhaps Mary Tyler Moore. Don't you agree?
Plus size, you know, like a size 0 plus one. I'm just glad that she doesn't appear to need a concealed weapons permit because her hip bones are sticking out so far.
They did make a point on the show of saying she is in truth a normal-sized woman, not plus-sized per se. But they said that from the standpoint of the modeling industry, she's larger than average.
She was on Regis and Kelly this morning and said that she's a size 8-10.
She's a size 8-10? Well, I'm usually a 10 and an 8 is my ideal "good weight" size...just haven't seen that single digit for awhile. *sigh*
Loved your comments, Karen, and I totally agree.
We can only hope the tides are changing. Beauty comes in many sizes. I am glad they clarified that she is only considered plus size in modeling, because if I start getting labeled as plus size for wearing size 10 pants, I'm leaving the country.
