Ageless

Today we celebrated Aunt Stella's birthday. This remarkable woman just turned 94 yet you'd never realize it. Sharp in mind, playful in spirit, utterly current on everything from local politics to Britney Spears, she's a marvel. A lifelong clotheshorse, she still dresses with feminine grace and elegant style. She reads The New York Times cover to cover every day. And she has a delightfully frank sense of humor and enjoys a good laugh. As she always says (and said again today), "If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself!"

In my next life, I want to be Stella.

I'll bet she has some great stories to tell. I would love to sit and talk to her.

She does have fantastic tales, it's true, Karen. She used to work as a saleswoman in a hoity-toity boutique in Manhattan during the late 40s and 50s and her customers were no less than Bette Davis, Fred Astaire, Greer Garson and a slew of other famous film types. On Sunday she told us she had met Flor Ziegfeld (of the famous Ziegfeld Follies). We were duly impressed until Aunt Bert dismissed it. "That's nothing," Bert exclaimed, "Meyer Lansky pinched my fanny." These old gals have GREAT stories and they remember them all. I could listen to them all day long.
