After two weeks of whirlwind travel and the elation of a Southern wedding/Southern Elvis festival, I landed squarely back in reality sandwich land today. Yes, it's been a sheer delight indulging in various hues of orange foodstuffs and beer and alcoholic swill and no exercise outside of dragging my fat ass a few feet to get from point A to B. After indulgent stretches such as this, I force myself into a boot camp of rigid discipline. I have to--as painful as it is.
The commission of the remodel projects on the apartment has finally started and within a few days, the living room has been half gutted and a new 46" flat screen HDTV television sits flush with my 1907 apartment walls. It's mighty pretty. The contractors are putting in a sweet Bose sound system tomorrow which is also attached to a stereo system that runs throughout the apartment. But most importantly, they removed the massive original turn of the century mirror that was built over the fireplace and moved it, frame and all, to the hallway and built a frame to support it. It looks spectacular there. Coming home each day since Monday is like opening a present. And it's manual labor that I don't have to do myself.
I also forced myself back to the gym tonight. After 13 days absence and the aforementioned indulgence in vice, I decided to do a two hour kick boxing and grappling session tonight. Fuck me. What a difference a couple of weeks make. I was working like a hooker with a quota. When I limped from the locker room at 8:30, my Joshu (enemy and friend) greeted me. "So," I asked, "Did you think I was coming back?" He laughed. He's a Brooklyn man. "No," he replied, "I didn't." "Ye of little faith, " I replied. "It may take me longer than the average bear, but I always come back and I always persevere. Always." There was a pause and he said, "When are you coming again?" "Two hour power kickboxing Saturday morning, baby," I replied (I can't believe I called the Joshu 'baby' but I did). "Good," he said, "I'm going to work your ass." Seems we're friends again.
So while I'm settling back into my normal routine, E!! sends me an e-mail with some enticing new road trip opportunities. So easily distracted, I'm already thinking what the next adventure will bring.

YOU, girl, have discipline! And, I must say, it shows. You're a gorgeous woman!
Now, as for the apartment. I'm really impressed. You live in NYC and actually have rooms! (translation for anyone else who might be reading this: apartments in NYC are expensive! Some people can only afford a studio-one room). Ha! The changes sound nice.
The apartment sounds awesome! I'd love to see it sometime. And more road trips.... hmmmmm..... very intriguing!
Road trip suggestion! And it is a fairly short one from NYC - our boy TH is playing at the Big E on September 29th. For those who don't know, The Big E is the biggest fair in the Northeast. It takes place in West Springfield, MA and features food from all six New England states, a midway, a circus, parades, theme days, 4-H fairs/contests, etc. This is my hometown and I'd love to see any of you who'd like to come up!
Girl, Orange Beach, Alabama. September 2. Labor Day.
Be there or be L7.
Hmm. The very notion of taking the summer off and just roaming around the United States in a rental car and a case of Amstel Light is looking might freaking appealing.
