What a curious day. It was so ethereal that it gave me the feeling I was walking a foot off the ground all day. I felt cocooned and mellow, not unlike that cool stoned feeling one might get from some fresh sensamilia from Hawaii..not like I'd know what that actually feels like or anything.
Here's a few nice things that happened today:
-It was warm. Beautifully warm. 70 degrees warm. Leaving home this morning, I was greeted by a vast pink sky which reached heavenward with its languid abandon. I wanted to linger on the street and revel in its hedonistic beauty instead of retreating to the subway like the diligent member of society that I am. Did I say it was glorious? Oh, it was. All day long.
-When I stole off to the gym to get a kickboxing session in at lunch, I didn't have any of my regular partners. Raising my boxing glove to indicate my odd-man-out-status, I was approached by a woman named Kayna. She was a higher belt, but I was won by her sweet smile. She turned out to be the best partner I've had so far. Her uppercut almost knocked me over; she egged me on to work hard. When she threw the slips (a mimic of a punch toward your head which you must pivot to avoid), the girl was going for my head--and hard. Now THAT'S a sparring partner. I can't wait to box with her again.
-The Glamazon has a date. She trotted in and announced she was dating new candidates now that The Idiot has disappointed her for the last time. I was very skeptical and said, "Well idealism is the first step.." but she stopped me short. "Oh, no" she declared, "I have a date tomorrow night." She preceded to tell me about her candidate, whom she found on J-Date. Well, well, thought I, she's finally moving on. I'm actually not convinced she's given up her Bad Boy but that she'd declare this to me means she's taking baby steps.
-I admired Norma's chiseled biceps and shoulders as we talked in her office today. Even thought it is 70 degrees outside, the building management has the building heated to a roasting 80 degrees. It was the perfect opportunity for Norma to strip down to a sleeveless shirt. Norma is a gym rat and she has Madonna worthy biceps and quadriceps. She was delighted when I looked at the definition in her arms and said, "I want to have those." Summer's coming people. I do want my arms to look good, though I doubt I'll ever look that good.
- I suppose the highlight of the day was the confirmation that I got the promotion I wanted. I accepted the offer. I will make more money. I will have a long commute. I will now be a Vice President. That's the money shot for me. This title was so important for my Dad and I wish he were still alive today--he'd be so pleased. It's bittersweet in that respect but I hope, somehow, he knows because to me that's what matters most of all.
I'm drinking a glass of champagne now--well, because I can--and it's keeping me feeling as easy as can be and as if I had some of that nice Hawaiian dope.
Not like I know how that feels or anything.
